Welcome to Ellesborough Parish Council

Ellesborough stands at the edge of the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) with The Coombe Hill memorial and Cymbeline’s Mount within its boundaries as well as two churches, The Russell Arms public house, sports field and playground.

Ellesborough is a village and civil parish in the Wycombe district of Buckinghamshire. Situated at the foot of the Chiltern Hills just to the south of the Vale of Aylesbury, two miles from Wendover and five miles from Aylesbury. The parish has a population of about 820 and in addition to the village itself, includes the hamlets of Butlers Cross, Terrick and Dunsmore.

A network of footpaths and bridleways, including the Ridgeway National Path criss-cross the beautiful landscape and the area is enjoyed by many serious hikers and more leisurely walkers as well as an increasing number of cyclists. Other recreational facilities include a playground and adult fitness equipment together with an outdoor table tennis table are provided at Butlers Cross adjacent to the Parish Hall and a playing field and allotments at Royal Mead.

We have rare Orchids on the escarpments, Bluebell woods on the hills and an increasing population of Red Kites.

The local community is vibrant with numerous local societies and organised events. We have a Silver Band, the thriving Chiltern Brewery and 2 farm shops. One at Terrick specialising in beef and one at Buckmoorend specialising in local and home produced products and meat from animal reared on the Chequers Estate. The Russell Arms is the community owned public house at Butlers Cross which is also where the community defibrillator is positioned. There are 2 churches in the parish, one at Ellesborough with an active band of bellringers and one in Dunsmore.

Close to Ellesborough within the Parish is the Prime Minister’s country residence, Chequers.

The Parish Council consists of seven members and meets every two months in the Village Hall. We welcome public attendance and input at these meetings.
